"Congratulations" implies a celebration, but divorce is certainly not a cause of one. Perhaps, as you said, it's relief that's being celebrated. Either way, it's great that you're looking forward to the fresh start, and that people you know are genuinely happy for you. I think, at least with my Mom, that there's an element of being judgmental involved. And whether it's deserved or not, it gives the impression that the person is close-minded which can be extremely frustrating to someone who is interested in having an open conversation.

I run into something similar playing MMO's. Someone in general chat will ask about the best class type, or the best skill tree and there are some people who will belligerently claim that one is best.

I actually experienced this in my guild, one member was insisting that Bounty Hunters were the best because of their ability to yield high damage and heal themselves. But Bounty Hunters are hardly the only ones who can multitask in this way, not to mention he was completely missing the importance of what the player individually brings to the game play. An inexperienced player might have a Bounty hunter but not be able to play him to his full potential, or a really experienced player could be playing any other class and take on a Bounty hunter just fine. For the record I managed to beat his highest Bounty Hunter with both of my Jedi class characters. But it took the longest time for him to admit that this was purely his opinion rather than being the reality of the situation. He just didn't want to admit that there were other possibilities for what was the best. humandisasterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12874862852222507726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2080669024810102815.post-89297888115153767542013-08-18T18:32:30.348-07:002013-08-18T18:32:30.348-07:00Thank you! At the moment, I can't think of anyone that I know personally whom has a very "definitely" point of view. I think I tend more towards a "possibly" mind set myself.

Recently, though, in following some threads on a web forum about gaming, it was interesting to see some people positing that their particular style or approach to running tabletop roleplaying games (GMing) was intrinsically and definitely better than the styles and approaches used by other game masters. Just from that limited experience I observed that most people found their manner insulting, and that - in conversation at least - it is generally better to present your ideas as possibilities rather than definite, even if your mind is quite made up on the subject.Catalysthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03215301903349738618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2080669024810102815.post-46467287196473843822013-05-14T16:24:45.575-07:002013-05-14T16:24:45.575-07:00The part of me that wants to be Batman would say t...The part of me that wants to be Batman would say that fighting can be constructive if it results in people who hurt children getting their due. But the more sensible part of me knows this is a bad idea.

In the case of physical assault on a child, is dialing 911 an acceptably constructive form of "fight"?

For myself, there have only ever been two things that I've experienced which really got my blood boiling: certain personal insults and reports of particularly heinous crimes committed against children in which the justice system really dropped the ball, thus putting the victims or other children in serious danger. In the case of the former, I simply bite my tongue. In the case of the latter, I realize there is really nothing I can do, and so I just remind myself that God will take care of such things in due time.Catalysthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03215301903349738618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2080669024810102815.post-32587753259520328322012-11-07T23:10:37.983-08:002012-11-07T23:10:37.983-08:00That makes a lot of sense! I thought they were good together. And I could see why they might like each other. Then I thought to myself what is the worst example I have seen. I think Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise in Knight and Day. I have noticed it has become cliche for them to lay groundwork and relationship development by one or both characters divulging either some personal tidbit from their past or some hope or dream they have. When this can occur naturally in the course of the film and is well acted you may not even really notice it happening. In Knight and Day it was ridiculously forced. It was so obvious that this was their supposed bonding time. But seriously who sees someone on a plane and immediately starts yacking about all their personal business to a total stranger? And it just got worse from there. I have never waNted to groan and facepalm so much in my life.Hmmm this is possibly a topic that deserves its own entry.....lolhumandisasterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12874862852222507726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2080669024810102815.post-82066920733404604242012-07-25T04:58:39.578-07:002012-07-25T04:58:39.578-07:00I remember you saying that about Prince of Persia ...I remember you saying that about Prince of Persia and after seeing it I ended up agreeing. The shallow romance seems to be a staple of these kind of action-adventure movies. I felt the same way about Prince of Persia. I guess it's hard to develop a meaningful relationship between two characters in just ~2 hours when you also have to devote a good part of that time to the plot and the action.Catalysthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03215301903349738618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2080669024810102815.post-27403996175067871762012-07-06T18:43:34.879-07:002012-07-06T18:43:34.879-07:00LOL I bet they would!
